This closing rocker arm was mounted on a Ducati 1199 F18 that competed in the WorldSBK 2018. Closing rocker arms actuate the closing movement of the valve. The exhaust camshaft lobe acts on the upper curve of the rocker arm, while the rocker arm fork lifts the closing shim in order to close the valve.
Made from heat-treated steel, they then undergo a nitriding process to maximise surface hardness. Subsequently they receive a special diamond-like carbon coating, which combines extreme hardness and low friction resulting in ultimate abrasion resistance. Rocker arms are subject to a maximum acceleration which can reach as much as 34,000 m/s2. Weighing 69 g (2.4 oz.), these components are small, yet extremely durable.
As this component is subject to oxidation, we advise frequent lubrication to maintain its appearance.
